Wingra Watershed Facts

Here is food for thought during the next rainfall in the Wingra Watershed.

Wingra Watershed size: 4,525 acres.
Land surface area: 325 acres.
Wetland area: 210 acres.
Percent permeable surface (surface that absorbs rainfall) : 54%.
Percent of each rainfall that goes down the storm sewer: 46%.
Each year Wingra Watershed stormwater runoff picks up 500 tons of sediment and 3,300 pounds of phosphorus on its way to the storm sewer.

Is this an environmentally acceptable way to manage one of our most precious natural resources?
